The city of Orland, CA, is located in Glenn County, due west of Chico along State Route 32 at Interstate 5. The community sits about 10 miles west of the Sacramento River in the northern Sacramento Valley. As a rural agricultural town, Orland covers not quite three square miles of land, home to a population of roughly 7,600 people.
Orland incorporated in 1909 and its first post office opened in 1916. During World War II, the U.S. Army selected Orland as the site of an airfield for pilot training. The city recently declared itself “Queen Bee Capital of North America” for its unmatched production by local beekeepers. Orland is also the headquarters of the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians.
